Detailed XP Repair Pro Review

XP Repair Pro is a popular registry cleaner and PC optimization software designed to work with Windows XP - although it is also compatible with Windows Vista.

It is perhaps one of the more popular registry cleaners, as it has had over 1.42 million downloads in just under 2 years. It has also received favorable reviews from software review giants such as Cnet's download.com and Softpedia.

The latest "2007" version is capable of detecting and repairing over 60,000 of the most common errors that you may experience with a windows computer.

Features:
XP Repair Pro is packed with the usual features you would expect from a registry cleaner, as well as several additional ones you may not expect.

The first feature available to registered users of XP Repair Pro is an additional program called "Stop Starting". This is a free easy-to-use application which allows you to stop certain programs from starting up automatically when your computer loads. This will considerably increase the load-up time of your PC, as well as improve general performance.

Now if you're PC savvy, you'll know that it's possible to do this manually - but it can be a complicated process, which means this additional application is great for those of you who aren't as PC savvy.

XP Repair Pro also features and Advanced Registry Editor, which allows you to comfortably edit your registry settings manually. This is very handy if you're familiar with your windows registry, but isn't likely to be needed by the majority of users.

One of our favorite features about XP Repair Pro is the "software crash monitor". This feature will automatically monitor your computer processes, and if it detects something that is likely to cause an "illegal error" and cause your PC to freeze, lock-up, or crash, it will stop it from happening. This feature allows your computer to be much more stable.

XP Repair Pro features a Live Update facility, similar to that of Microsoft's. This means you will automatically receive free updates. In 2008, XP Repair Pro are planning a large update which will include a file shredder (to safely delete files without chance of recovery), privacy cleaning tools, and more.

In total, 8 new features are planned. When this is released, XP Repair Pro will become the most feature-packed registry cleaner and PC optimization software on the market.

Ease of Installation:
XP Repair Pro is a small 2.40mb download, which takes just about a minute on a broadband connection. Once it has been downloaded, you simply open the .exe file and XP Repair Pro will install automatically. This means you need very little computer knowledge to get this application working.

Support:
XP Repair Pro has a comprehensive support knowledge base on their website, which contains all the information you're ever likely to need about the program. They also have a facility where you can submit a support ticket if you have any problems, including technical problems. If you want to get in contact with the people behind the software, you can do so via a simple contact form on their website.

Presentation:
The presentation of XP Repair Pro isn't as intuitive and simple as some of the other register cleaners we have reviewed, but it doesn't take very long to understand once you've used the program a few times. Below you will find a screenshot of each main feature that XP Repair Pro offers, along with an explanation of what each feature does.

This image shows the "repair errors" screen. Here you can select which part of the registry you would like to scan (default is to scan everything). You start a scan by clicking the "start system scan" button at the bottom right corner. You also have the option to view errors and ignore errors using the appropriate tab.
This shows the "optimize system" screen. This useful feature will take the scattered fragments of registry file data and arrange them in an organized structure - much like windows own defrag application. This will result in faster PC speeds.
This image shows the "registry editor" screen, which is where you can manually edit your registry. This is recommended only for advanced users, and it is a handy feature if manual editing is something you would like to do. This won't be needed for most users, however.
This image shows the "system backup" screen. This is where you can view backups of previous registry settings. This is an important feature, because if an error was to happen after repairing your registry (such as a key deleted which you still need to run a program) then you can easily recover it manually.
This image shows the preferences screen. Here is where you can choose whether you want automatic repairs and repairable notification, as well as basic display options.
This image shows the "help" screen. This is where you'll find FAQs, technical support, and general help on how to use the features. You also have a tab where you can set automatic updates.

In conclusion, XP Repair Pro is a solid application, capable of doing everything it claims to. It's the perfect choice for the advanced beginner of intermediate computer user. It is a little less intuitive as some of the other registry cleaners we have reviewed, but it also boasts the most features - and with the additional features that are being released, it will certainly be one of the most comprehensive registry cleaners available.

XP Repair Pro allows you to use many of its features for free - but to get the most out of this software you will need to become a registered user. Thankfully, the registered user package is guaranteed for 56 days - so if you're not happy with the product for any reason, you can get a complete refund.
